When I was considering what to do for my thesis I landed on the idea of “the semiotics of type” in other words what meanings are conveyed subliminally by the typeface used. I struggled with finding references for this and as I was only doing a BA not an MA so I settled on instead on another topic (the “genderisation of humour – a comparison of the humour used by male and female cartoonists.” if you were wondering!)
The semiotics of type still intrigue me. Now there is a set on flickr by Lars Willem Veldkampf which has explored this area called typocalypse see if you agree and read the comments
I’m looking forward to a holiday at Heathrow airport!
oops i meant to post that on school of life! i’ll try again, just delete these ones.
That is brilliant, i particularly like Edwardian script.
I agree with what you say about the meanings of typefaces. Could you tell me a typeface that would infer bravado?
Thanks.
